Pittwater Life: Elanora Residents Association has labelled Transport for NSW's move to do away with the longstanding west-bound slip lane for traffic turning right onto the Wakehurst Parkway from Elanora Road as a “deathtrap”.
They're also fear the upgrade will create increased 'rat run' traffic down to Narrabeen as motorists shun the intersection in search of less congested access to the Parkway...
Local MP Jacqui Scruby said residents' concerns were “entirely valid”.
“Requiring vehicles to turn right across two lanes of highspeed traffic at an intersection with a tragic history presents a serious safety risk,” she said.
In Parliament in late May, Ms Scruby' asked NSW Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison about the intersection, including what modelling had been undertaken to quantify the risk of several outcomes, including increased traffic banking up Elanora Road and increased risk-taking behaviour in traffic across two lanes as drivers tried to 'run the gauntlet'.
