Local Independents Secure $6.7 Million for New Narrabeen Athletics Track

Independent Members for Pittwater and Wakehurst, Jacqui Scruby and Michael Regan, have secured $6.7 million in the 2025 NSW Budget, in addition to the $1.9m from insurance, for new synthetic athletics track at the Sydney Academy of Sport in Narrabeen.

The former track was closed in December 2023 due to safety concerns with the surface, leaving athletes, schools, and local sporting clubs without a suitable facility.

The new track will be World Athletics compliant and include a moisture-resilient synthetic surface, upgraded stormwater drainage, a new asphalt subbase, and improved supporting infrastructure.

Jacqui Scruby MP said: “The closure of the track was a huge loss to our community. Since being elected, I’ve worked alongside Michael Regan to push for this vital upgrade. I’m proud we’ve delivered this outcome for our athletes, schools and sporting clubs.

“This track is more than infrastructure – it’s where young people train, compete and grow. I look forward to seeing it back in action.

“Thank you to local associations, including Little Athletics and local athletes who joined us for media and attended a debate in Parliament. That pressure was felt by the Minns' government and has delivered today’s funding announcement.”

Michael Regan MP said: “Sport brings people together. The loss of this track affected not just athletes, but families, volunteers, and schools across the Northern Beaches.

“I’m proud that as local independents, Jacqui and I have worked constructively with the community and government to make this happen.”

The NSW Office of Sport has already begun design and site investigations. A temporary grass track will remain available during construction. A full construction timeline, including start and reopening dates, will be announced shortly.
